Prairie View Art Competition

Steam Punk Style!!

On April 2, ten students and their two art teachers made the trip to Prairie View High School to compete in their 2nd Annual art competition.  There were actually four competitions.  The bring your awesome artwork and judged in the juried show, the dress steam punk style costume contest, the steam punk style drawing inspired by a Victorian era poem or story, and finally the music instrument created out of junk.  We were busy!!

In the end, two students, received a grade of Artistic Excellence.  Jessica Switzer for her Japanese Tea Service set and Shelbi Heikes for her Andy Warhol inspired trash can multi-media drawing.  Two more students received a grade of Artistic Merit.  Priscilla Ruiz's zentangle and Kaitlynn Maslen's Greek inspired vase.  A good job for these students and to all that particpated!!

Art Club and Valentine's Day

Several Art Club members have been creating ceramic hearts, gift card with envelopes and paper flowers to sell as a fundraiser for Valentine's Day.  A number of students have put in numerous hours in the creation of products.

More Art!

One of our hours (3rd hour to be exact) is particularly interesting in that we have three different classes meeting.  In this hour we create Jewelry, Sculpture and one lucky student has Creative Studio. The Creative Studio student is working on her interpretations of Van Gogh's "Starry Starry Night".  Pictures to follow on a later date for that project!  In Sculpture we actually created some birds out of clay as did the Ceramics II course.  Jewelry class has been making beads out of clay for bracelets.  The clay beads are going through the firing process as I type this and the students cannot wait to glaze them!  Our next Jewelry projects falls under the realm of  "wearable art".  We will be making scarves out of t-shirts and adorning them with objects that are specific to the creator.
